An ever-changing spit of sand on the Carolina coast is a haven for multitudes of shorebirds. But nature and humans threaten it.

Deveaux Bank, an island located off the shores of South Carolina, is an important conservation area and a critical stopover for whimbrels on their long migration between northern Canada and South America.

In efforts to provide information on conservation strategies for protecting whimbrels, as well as other shorebirds of Deveaux, individuals were fitted with Lotek Pinpoint Solar VHF Tags in order to identify their migratory route preferences.
