An award-winning workplace

   

Lotek has had the honour of winning many awards since we started our business in 1984. In 1992 we received the Commitment to Quality Award from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Ontario Ministry of Industry, Trade and Technology. In addition, the Canada Awards have recognized us in two separate categories for Business Excellence: in 1993 we received their Certificate of Merit Award, and in 1994 we won their Award of Excellence, both in the Small Business category. We also won the award for Export Development from our local Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, in 2002 we were awarded the Canadian Export Award for outstanding export performance and then in 2003 were awarded by the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce "Hall of Distinction" Business Excellence Award for "Developing International Trade".

Our outstanding safety practices have also been recognized. In 1998 we were featured in the "Best Practices" video of the Workers Safety Insurance Board. In addition, in 1998 the Industrial Accident Prevention Association recognized Lotek for 14 years of business that was free of any insurance claims. This award is not often given and is a testimony to the attitude and efforts of all our employees to maintain a safe work environment.

Opportunities
for Advancement

   

Policies and procedures are clearly outlined in our Company Policy Manual, our Quality Assurance and Configuration Documents, and our Health and Safety Manual. Performance reviews take place at least annually and goals for achievement are mutually agreed upon.

To facilitate internal movement we always post all job opportunities internally to start. To ensure that we have the best-trained and productive employees possible, Lotek has a generous training policy that funds approved university and college courses and degrees, and pays up to $100.00 per year towards text materials. We currently have several employees who have completed or are close to completing degrees, which have been earned while working at Lotek. In addition, we provide internal training opportunities and send employees to job-specific seminars.
 

 
       
Communication
   

Communication is critical to the smooth running of our company. We have monthly company meetings, where employees provide updates of projects, sales trips and conventions that they have attended, and the president gives a report on our business plan. In addition, we have regular departmental and managers' meetings.
 

 
       
Total Rewards
   

Our compensation package is competitive and offers a good base salary that is clearly defined in job categories, as well as incentive programs that are distributed annually. Lotek also invites key employees to become shareholders within the company.

Lotek offers a generous benefit package that is paid for by the company. Features include extended health services, prescription coverage, some para-medical services, 100% coverage for preventative dental work and 80% coverage for restorative work.

Lotek also offers tuition-paid educational opportunities, flexible work arrangements, as well as EAP, wellness programs and lunch and learns covering a variety of topics. Furthermore, we are involved with a program called Earthwatch, where employees who have been with the company for 10 years of service, are eligible to win a company-paid expedition ranging from 10 to 14 days, to assist with a team of researchers at field sites all over the world.
 

 
       
Participation
   

Our Social Committee plans annual Christmas parties, company BBQs, picnics, theme days, birthday and anniversary celebrations and charity events. We also celebrate the diverse backgrounds of our employees with things like `potluck lunches, where employees are able to bring their cultural foods to share with the company. Being an environmentally conscious company we also contribute paid half days at parks within the community, doing clean-up and restoration. And as a daily treat Lotek has available to its staff free coffee, tea and filtered water.

Employees are encouraged to take part in committees and project teams. We have high expectations of our employees and recognize the value of providing opportunities for employees to contribute and show initiative in many areas of the company.
