SRX 400: Product Details: Application examples

A wide range of applications with a single flexible system

The SRX_400 receiver's diverse operating software and wide range of peripheral devices make it ideal for continuous, unmanned application in a variety of situations. To date, some of these applications have included:

  • remote monitoring of the presence or absence of individual wolf pack members (Canis lupus) at rendezvous sites

  • measuring the energetic cost (EMG) of migration at potential velocity barriers, and the micro scale movements, of migrating Sockeye Salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) through fast flowing rapids of a major river

  • continuous monitoring of the effects of structures at hydroelectric stations on the downstream escapement of Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) smolts

  • continuous micro and macro scale monitoring of the effectiveness of mitigative processes and designs on upstream migration of approximately 2,000 Steelhead (Oncorhyncus mykiss) and Chinook (O. tshawytscha) (using CODE_LOG with DSP 500)

  • monitoring the migration of 400 adult Chinook (O. tshawytscha) and measuring escapement in a 600 km stretch of a major river system

  • continuous activity monitoring of grizzly bears (Ursus Arctos) on a remote mountain range

  • assessment of predator (Ptychocheilus oregonensis) movements and behavior relative to hydroelectric structures and operations

  • continuous measuring of entrainment effects and energetic cost (EMG) of hydroelectric station operation on Lake Sturgeon (Acipenser fulviscens) and White Sucker (Catostomus commersoni)

  • activity monitoring of bats within and around Hibernacula with respect to changes in temperature

  • remotely monitoring the acceptance by potential rabies vectors of a variety of instrumental oral vaccine baits, using cellular telephone links to interrogate the datalogging receivers.

These are but a few examples of the many ways that the SRX_400 has been utilized for fish and wildlife monitoring studies in the past. If you would like to discuss the suitability of this receiver/datalogger for your specific research application, we encourage you to contact us.
