Sensor Transmitters:
ID + Data

Transmitters and Sensor Devices for use in all Aquatic Environments

As use of telemetry continues to expand the available knowledge of fish movement and behavior in their natural environment, the need to supplement identification of fishes with sensor data becomes increasingly valuable. Such devices assist researchers in better identifying responses by tagged fish populations to changes within the study environment, from behaviors associated with onset of spawning activity to behavioral affects associated with warm/cold water releases in regulated rivers. Our suite of coded radio, acoustic, and combined acoustic / radio tags transmit sensor data along with each unique animal ID — in every type of environment encountered in fisheries research.

Sensor Types
    Depth Sensor:
Depth sensor data are embedded within each unique identification (ID) code. Sensor data transmission events can occur at each ID burst interval or at a pre-selected alternate transmission cycle based on application requirements. Pressure transmitters range between 15, 50, 100, 150, 250, 500, and 750 psi. Data may be displayed, as well as stored in an appropriately configured Lotek receiver.

Motion Sensor:
Motion sensitivity sensors allow the user to identify a unit of time by which to define the state of motion/ mobility of an instrumented animal. When a transmitter registers a change in the motion/ mobility state, a code corresponding to the altered state is transmitted. The user can also specify sensitivity boundaries that will define the transmitter’s state of motion/ mobility. A motion reset feature can also be enabled to allow the user to revert back from an altered motion/mobility state.

Temperature Sensor:
Temperature transmitters are provided over a range of – 6° to + 34° C with sensor accuracy and resolution of + 2% full-scale deflection. ID and temperature data may be displayed and stored in an appropriately configured Lotek receiver.

Sensor transmitter accuracy is +/- 2% of full scale deflection; resolution is 2% of full scale deflection. Maximum deviation in transmitter size and weight is +/- 3% of specified.

Key Features
    Coded:
Lotek coding systems have the ability to identify large numbers of individually tagged animals with transmitters operating at a high transmission interval and on a single frequency. This capability represents a powerful advantage for research projects. Through a significant reduction in total scan time, such a system offers the potential for greater tracking efficiency and higher probability of detection in projects involving large study populations, multiple antenna deployments, aerial tracking, as well as in studies where fish are expected to pass monitoring sites at relatively high velocities.

Ability to combine sensors:
Multiple sensors can be incorporated into a single transmitter and can be designed for simultaneous deployment with conventional coded (ID-only) transmitters. Users can also define the transmission ratio of multi-sensor devices. For example a transmitter can be specified to transmit temperature data at equal intervals, or at some multiple of depth data transmission.

Field-proven technology:
The Lotek sensor platform builds upon existing technology, to provide configuration flexibility and ease of future expansion. Coded sensor transmitters currently available include temperature, pressure, motion and EMG (electromyogram). Sensor devices are available across all our transmitter platforms: radio, acoustic, and combined acoustic/radio.

Specifications
All models listed transmit a unique digitally coded ID. The following nomenclature denotes the transmission mode of the ID and/or sensor device:
SR - SRX compatible radio transmission
MA - MAP compatible acoustic transmission
CH - Alternate (MAP) acoustic and (SRX) radio transmission

Periodic design modifications to individual transmitter models may alter specifications while selection of external attachment option (if available) will increase dimensions and weight. It is recommended that specifications be confirmed when placing an order.
