| Summary
In the fall/winter of 2003/2004, Lotek Wireless and Queen's
University began a partnership that resulted in the establishment
of the Queen's Ecological Observatory.
In one of the Observatory's first studies, 22 large mouth
bass were tagged with temperature & pressure sensing
acoustic tags, and monitored continuously with Lotek's advanced
MAP 600 acoustic telemetry positioning
system. Monitoring continued from fall 2003 through spring
2004, collecting up to 200,000 position records daily. The
video shown above demonstrates how such a study can provide
new insights into animal behaviour - in this example, demonstrating
how the bass react to the temperature drop in the lake during
the transition from fall to winter.
