In 1984, Jim Lotimer left his research position at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, where he had been the head of the Biotelemetry Laboratory for eight years, and started his own company along with co-founders Jane Lotimer, Stewart Strathearn and Peter Anson. In 1994 Lotek expanded its operations with the establishment of a new branch, Lotek Marine Technologies Inc., in St. John's Newfoundland. In 1998, Lotek purchased Applied Biometrics Inc., to provide consultative services to industry, regulatory agencies and other environmental consultants.
