- Remote
2-way communication
- Allows you to
change GPS and VHF schedules, and download data, while the collar
is still on the animal.
- VHF Tracking Beacon
- Allows you to locate collar for retrieval using conventional tracking
techniques. Allows you to monitor the performance of the collar. Informs
you when either a) the battery is depleted, or b) the animal has died.
- Field-replaceable
battery pack
- Does not need to come back to Lotek for refurbishment. Saves money
on shipping, handling, and refurbishment costs. Allows you to continue
studying the same animal without having to purchase twice as many
collars. Eliminates down time and therefore gaps in study.
- Temperature
Sensor
- Allows you to
determine animal behavior as a function of ambient temperature. Can
cross-reference with location and activity data.
- Mortality/Recovery
Sensor
- Allows you to
be alerted when either the animal or the GPS battery has died, or
when the collar has not moved in specified period of time. Can retrieve
collar and its data from animal quickly after death of animal or GPS
battery. Protects your investment.

- User-programmable GPS Scheduler
- Allows you to optimize battery energy, taking fixes only when you
want to. Can prolong your study if desired, or get more frequent data
in a shorter study. Allows you to customize GPS fix schedule to meet
your needs, with different schedule on an hourly or day to day basis.
- User-programmable VHF Radio Beacon
Scheduler
- Can extend beacon battery life. Gives you more time to recover collar,
or plan collar recovery. Can be built using any frequency between
140-175 MHz.
- Differential Correction
- Improves the accuracy of GPS locations from within 100 meters to
within 5-10 meters of actual. Allows you to do micro-habitat work.
Allows you to determine animal travel corridors, feeding/drinking
sites, grazing habits and strategies in relation to forage types,
etc.
- Field
upload/download of data (almanac, schedules, data)
- Allows you to
communicate with the collar in the field. Doesn't need to be returned
to Lotek for data collection. Saves time and money. Ensures privacy
of data.
- Wide
operational and data retention temperature range
- Allows you to
use it in any climate, regardless of climate changes. Protects your
data in any temperature variation.
- Adjustable
belt (from both sides of collar)
- Allows you to
tailor collar to specific animal while maintaining the integrity of
the GPS antenna orientation to get the highest degree of acquired
fixes. Allows you to use the collar on different animals during the
study.
- Foam
padding on belt
- Minimizes neck
abrasion & sores. Minimizes effects on the animal's behaviour, therefore
giving you more accurate results. A variety of padding sizes available
to guarantee a comfortable fit.
- Hermetically
sealed/Waterproof (up to 1 atm. water)
- Waterproof to
a depth of 10 meters (33 feet), eliminating concern about water penetration
for animals that swim or spend time in water.
- Sturdy
Housing
- Housing is made
of high strength material (GE engineered resin) which is high impact
resistant, has high tensile strength, and is high & low temperature
resistant.
- Torque
wrench
- Ensures that
battery pack is installed properly, i.e., not so tight as to cause
collar damage (housing), and not so loose as to allow water penetration.
Rugged, durable, high quality instrument with precise torque settings
and bit sizes.
- Different
Size Battery Packs
- Can tailor weight
to size of animal. Can tailor battery capacity to length of study.
Gives two options for different budgets. Two battery pack sizes are
interchangeable. If you are studying a different animal in future,
you don't have to buy new collar - simply change the battery pack
size.
- Activity
Sensor (data-logged, two-axis combined count)
- Allows you to
determine animal activity (movement) as a function of time. More sensitive
than a one-axis sensor. Allows you to learn about animal behavior,
e.g., resting vs. moving. Can cross-reference data with temperature,
location, vegetation maps, time of day, terrain, and location of structures.
- Data
Qualification (2D vs. 3D, HDOP)
- In solved mode,
a user can qualify data accuracy as a function of 2D vs. 3D, and HDOP
(3D is more accurate than 2D, and low HDOP - less than 5 - is more
accurate than high HDOP. Enables you to sort more accurate data from
less accurate data. Allows you to understand the accuracy level of
your data points without having to invest in differential correction
(2D points with low HDOP = more accurate data).
- Different
belting types
- The availability
of a variety of material types allows you to choose the one best suited
to the animal type being tracked. Includes an options for smooth belting
to reducing abrasion and hair loss to the animal.
